The Curse of AQ - Three Live Games
I want to start by saying this blog will not be a 'bad-beat blog' or have a negative underlining. Instead it will be educational for readers as well as myself in analyzing past experiences and hands. After more thought I have recalled three additional hands where I held AQ and ran into trouble. One was in 1/2 NL, another in 2/5 NL, and a final hand in a live MTT. Each hand I lost big with AQ. Heres the hands:
1/2 NL (Pops house, SHOP opening game)
Joemoney raises UTG+1 to $12 with a very loose image, button calls, I call in SB with AQ, BB Julio loosely calls. (Pot $48)
Flop: Q9x, check, check, Joe bets $25, fold, I raise to $65, fold, Joe calls heads up to turn. (Pot $178)
Turn: J, I'm first to act I go all-in somewhere around $80. Joemoney insta-calls.
River: x, Joemoney flips over AA.
*Its extremly hard to put a loose solid player such as Joe on AA and the call to the raise on the flop threw me off. Nice hand.
2/5 NL (Owls Nest)
I was sitting with around $800+ and the game was fairly tight which was rare for the club. Some limpers, I have AQ in hijack and raise to $30, folds to SB calls, BB calls. (Pot $100 roughly)
Flop: AQT, SB bets $30, fold, I raise to $85, call. (Pot $270 roughly)
Turn: x, SB checks, (Heres my mistake..) I go all-in $600+, insta-call.
River: x, shows KJ for broadway.
*I pushed all-in due to the stack sizes, I had $600, she had around $200-300 left and I figured her for a draw as there were two-suited on the flop. I was wrong and paid up.
$30 MTT (Brians house back in the day)
This was a low buy-in tournament and many players treated it as such making crazy plays they would never make with a $500 buy-in. Four stacks have doubled up in the first 30mins, Travis, Ken, and two others, which leaves less time to sit tight and more pressure to make moves. Folds to Ken in MP who just won a big pot and says "What the hell, loose call" folds to me on the button where I make it 3x the BB with AQ, Ken gives me a stare down and calls.
Flop: AQT
Ken checks, I make a normal bet of 3/4's of the pot, Ken goes all-in, easily has me covered. I call. Ken shows KJ and thats all she wrote.
*Sure I have won alot with AQ just like anyone else, but just wanted to post up the AQT flop which can sometimes get you in trouble.
